Yesterday’s plunge in stock prices confirms my warnings (Tuesday headline “Uh Oh !”) that the hot money was using any strength in hot stocks like Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), APPLE (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), and Alphabet (GOOG), to sell.
The Street is finally concerned that the big stimulus it has been salivating over may not come soon enough, or in the size the Street had hoped for.

The election of Donald Trump  and his promises of tax cuts, deregulation and a big spend on the infrastructure and/or the military, triggered a 13.1% surge in the S&P 500 on top of an already historically over-priced  market.
The Street has  programmed its algorithms to buy on any weakness.  We will see now if analysts have stepped in to alter those algos to take into consideration the uncertainty of President Trump.
If so, there is more downside. If not, expect stability after a bit more slippage.                                                                                               >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

MY TECHNICAL ANALYSIS  of the 30 DJIA Companies
:  (UPDATED 6/13/17)
On occasion, I technically analyze each of the 30 DJIA stocks  for a reasonable risk, a more extreme risk, and an upside potential over the near-term. I add the results of each, then divide by the new DJIA “divisor” (0.14602) to get the DJIA for those levels. This gives me an internal check on the DJIA itself, especially if certain higher priced stocks are distorting the averages.
As of  June 15, 2017,  a reasonable risk is 21,951 a more extreme risk is 20,703.Near-term upside potential is 21,418.

POLITICAL/STOCK MARKET
NOTE: I have retained a lot of the copy here for new readers, but also because it is relevant, since assumptions and information here are confirmed by unfolding news.

TRUMP approval ratings also abysmal abroad.

July 4th is a time Americans celebrate the birth of our nation, a time Americans take a minute to be proud of our constitutional representative republic and its many accomplishments, which unfortunately are systematically being gutted as I write.
Unfortunately, our image has dropped sharply under Trump as president. His approval ratings wallow  in the 30s, as he has hastened to disengage the U.S. from our long-standing foreign alliances.
A recent Pew Research Center survey covering 37 countries gives Trump a 22% confidence rating that he would do the right thing in international affairs. President Obama’s rating in the same category as he left office was 64%.
Trump’s plunge is especially pronounced among our closest allies in Europe and Asia.
American people as a group came out well in the poll with a median of 58% favorable.

Trump sucks wind in comparison with other major world leaders in the do the right thing category, trailing Germany’s Angela Merkel (#1), China’s Xi Jinping, Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
Disapproval of Trump’s signature policies was obvious with abysmal approval ratings for his: withdrawal of support from  the Iran nuclear weapons agreement (34%); restrictions on immigrants entering the U.S. (32%); withdrawal from the international climate change agreement (19%); withdrawal of support for major trade agreements (18%; building the “Wall” (16%).

Trump’s personality assessment is disturbing with 75% of the 37 countries saying he is arrogant, 65% saying he is intolerant, 62% dangerous, 55% a strong leader, 39% charismatic, 26% qualified to be president, 23% caring about people.
So my headline on January 3, “TRUMP – A Human Wrecking Ball” is confirmed globally, as well.

There is a chance, a big one, that Trump and the Freedom Caucus (Constitutional anarchists) will do irreparable damage to our nation domestically and internationally in coming years, when Fourth of July celebrations will be for a nation “that was.”
This combination wants to shred everything accomplished in the last 230 years, then remake it to reflect their hard right ideology.

Better Care Reconciliation ACT (BCRA) aka, Trumpcare

It looks like a final vote on the Senate healthcare vote will be delayed until after the July 4th recess.  It also looks like serious concessions will have to be made to pass it.
But who gets the concessions – conservatives or moderates ?
Ideology absolutely has no place  in this bill – NONE ! Have they no SHAME !

This bill has been developed in secret by a handful of Republicans, and no Democrats, yet it will affect all Americans.   It should be crafted to serve the best interests of Americans who need affordable health insurance coverage.  Anything short of that is not in the best interests of our country, i.e., hostile, un-American.
Ironically, most of Congress is covered by ACA, which was implemented in place of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan, when ACA became the law of the land.  So, Congress has some skin in the game……well, kind of.
……………………………………………………………………………..
FLIPPING VOTES:
      It doesn’t matter
if Russia was not able to hack into voting machines and flip Clinton votes  to Trump, if  Russia’s intrusion into Facebook and Twitter with  “fake” news was  able to convince voters before they voted that Clinton was seriously flawed and Trump the preferred choice.

……………………………………………………………………..
TRUMP TO PUT US  ON  A WAR FOOTING !
I moved this one up in the queue, due to a recent Trump tweet that help from China “has not worked.”
       On January 12, I noted:
“I am sure of one thing, the United States will be on a war footing in the spring of 2018. Two things, it will juice the economy….may push war hawks to act on military expenditures; two, ensure support for the mid-term elections.
(Investor’s first read.com.)
In April, Trump told the Financial Times, “If China is not going to solve North Korea, we will.” In June, he said, “While I greatly appreciate the efforts of President Xi & China to help with North Korea, it has not worked out.”
This looks like a countdown to military action, or brinkmanship so dire that North Korea comes to the table.
Strategically, Trump would want to put the country on a war footing  with North Korea closer to the election in 2018, but if the Russia investigation gets too hot, he may want to begin the process earlier as a distraction.
WHAT ABOUT SYRIA AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS ?
Another diversion to deflect attention away from yet another healthcare setback and the Russia/Trump investigation.
The only thing I am certain of is that this administration is the most untruthful administration in the 57 years I have been following politics.  What an utter disgrace.  We will be lucky to get out of this without an enormous amount of damage across the board.
       ……………………………………………………………………….
I have added Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate, to my list of “Connect the Dots” (see below).  Stein was sitting at the widely distributed photo where she and Michael Flynn were sitting at the dinner table with Vladimir Putin on December 15, 2015, a celebration of the 10th anniversary of Russian Network TV (RT).  Asked why she was there she replied, “The soiree was a great opportunity to layout some of my foreign policy proposals and get Russian reaction.”
Worth noting, Stein got enough votes in the Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to give the electoral college vote to Trump “assuming” her votes would have gone to Clinton, which she claims would not be the case.  In all fairness, the Johnson/Weld ticket got three time as many votes as Stein in those states, and they weren’t dining with Putin.
Why was Stein at the table ? Reportedly, she said her campaign was heavily promoted by RT. She told NBC’s Alex Seitz-Wald, “ And my own connection to RT, you know ironically, it takes a Russian television station to actually be open to independent candidates in this country and that is a shame. A shameful commentary on own media.” IMHO, Stein did nothing wrong, and is probably right about our own media which gave Trump a disgusting amount of free publicity, including liberal press MSNBC. Stein may have valuable input, since she was mixing with Russians at the highest levels.
…………………………………………………………………………
ROSENSTEIN OUT ?      Who Takes Over ?
Expect Rod Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General – DOJ will  likely be fired or have to recuse himself possibly as soon as this week, odds favor the latter. The real target here would be special counsel, Robert Mueller, who would be fired as a desperation stalling tactic by President Trump ‘if’” Trump can find an attorney general who would fire Mueller.  Trump cannot fire Mueller directly.
Obviously,  firing Mueller would smack of  “consciousness of guilt,” and could lead to impeachment proceedings by the House, and/or increase pressure for Trump to resign..

With Rosenstein out of the way,  associate attorney general, Rachel Brand, would take over.  If she resigns, or is fired, Dana Boente, U.S. attorney general for the Eastern District of Virginia would take over.
I believe this scandal reaches far beyond collusion with Russia to get Trump elected.

………………………………………………………………………….
 IMPEACHMENT
A  Consult/Politico poll shows 43% of Americans want Congress to begin procedures for the impeachment of President Trump.

The U.S. Constitution  enables Congress to remove a president for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Intitially, the House votes on one or more articles of impeachment- if a majority vote is reached, he is impeached.  BUT, impeachment only means indictment. The Senate holds a trial overseen by the chief justice and Supreme Court. A group of House members serve as prosecutors and the Senate as jurors. If two-thirds of the senators find the president guilty, he is removed from office and the vice president takes over.
………………………………………………………………………….

“Connect the Dots.” This investigation is open-ended
Nigel Farage – President Trump- Jeffrey Sessions – Robert Mercer – Cambridge Analytics – Bannon- Carter Page – Kushner (Jared and Ivanka) – Eric Prince – Donald and Eric Trump – Wilbur Ross –  Michael Cohen – Ezra Cohen Watnick – Flynn – JD Gordon  –  Christopher Steele – Michael Caputo -Breitbart – Roger Stone – Julian Assange – Paul Manafort – Rick Gates – Jill Stein – Russia’s Felix Sater – Sergey Gorkov –  Sergey Kislak, ambassador to the U.S..all connect directly or indirectly to the Trump/Russia investigation and some have a connection to Brexit, as well.
According to the “Observer, Mercer’s Cambridge Analytica was connected with Canada’s AggregateIQ through an intellectual property agreement and worked together on the Brexit referendum. Aggregate is also a data mining company. While Mercer was a big supporter of Trump, there is no known connection between AggregateIQ and Trump’s campaign staff.
Additionally,  Vice President Mike Pence simply had to be aware of what was happening in the campaign, but is being shielded because he is the second in command if  President Trump is impeached and convicted  or forced to resign. Stephen Miller, Joseph E. Schmitz may be of interest to the FBI for information they possess relating to the FBI investigation.
According to CNN Politics,  Marc Kasowitz has represented Trump for personal and business matters for years. Worth noting, Kasowitz is defending Russian bank, OJSC Sberbank in U.S. court, as well as a Russian billionaire, Oleg Deripaska, who has close ties with the Kremlin.
WHY SO MANY RUSSIANS ? WHY ALL THESE RUSSIAN CONNECTIONS ?  THIS IS GETTING BIGGER – IMHO THIS WILL BE THE BIGGEST SCANDAL “EVER” AND MAY TAKE YEARS TO FULLY UNWIND.
Was there a GLOBAL POWER PLAY here ?  Britain, United States, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Italy ?   Who was the puppeteer who were the puppets ?
The new kid on the FBI “person of interest” block in its US counter-intelligence investigation is Nigel Farage, a Brit, former UK Independence Party (UKIP)  leader and tactician for Brexit. He may be positioned to have a lot of pertinent information about 2016 election tampering. Reportedly, he has had direct or indirect contact with all of the above.  …………………………………………………………………………………..
President Trump’s budget is obviously DOA, with lots of blowback by Republicans looking to their prospects of re-election in 2018. The budget is a disgrace to who we are as Americans, as it skewers a portion of our society with little ability to defend itself, much less survive.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
OPINION: We are heading down a deep and perilous path, one that will test the full extent of our country as a republic. More importantly, we will be tested as Americans, as a country that can meet challenges with rational solutions and foresight to anticipate the needs of the future.  The politics of extremism and divisiveness are capable of destroying us from within.

As a nation, we have been blindsided by the devious use of unsubstantiated social media, radio and  cable television content that pitches lies, misinformation and bias to drive a wedge deeper and deeper between Americans.

This is all about total control, achieved by any means, legal or illegal, honorable or dishonorable. Americans must learn to mentally and emotionally process information accurately, in depth, and without social or political bias. That, or wake up some day as mere subjects of the  special and narrow interests of a quasi totalitarian state, once known as a constitutional representative republic, which championed the rights and protections of all individuals not a privileged political minority.

Institutions are still buying pullbacks in the market, but have run into an increasing amount of selling along the way, especially in  the market’s hottest stocks – Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG).
So far the market has been immune to political news, and that won’t change unless the massive stimulus promised by Trump is delayed or falls short of the Street’s hopes.
Failure to pass a healthcare bill has been a stumbling block to pursuing  the GOP agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and a big spend on infrastructure and/or the military.
With control of the presidency, both Houses of Congress, the Supreme Court, 32 state legislatures, 33 governors, and FOX News, how can they gum it up ?
Their Achilles heel is  Donald Trump’s capacity for irresponsible statements and lack of understanding the difference between running a real estate operation, where errors of judgement have limited impact, and running the most powerful country in the world.
He doesn’t belong in the “bigs,” is unqualified, overrated and outright dangerous. At some point , that will spook the Street.
The BIG money sees all this, and will pull the plug. There will be no doubt about their decision when they bail. They may want to run the table one more time, which would be classic bull market excess.
But, we have  a woefully understaffed and inexperienced government at the highest level, headed up by a “mistake,” an ill-equipped and unpredictable narcissist,  and the BIG money may see that as a problem.                                                                                        >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Failure to pass a healthcare bill has been a stumbling block to pursuing  the GOP agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and a big spend on infrastructure and/or the military.
At some point, this kind of mismanagement and partisan shuffleboard will impact consumer sentiment, which to date has been strong.
The surge in stock prices since Trump won the election in November is based solely on the expectation of a corporate windfall – tax cuts, deregulation, a big spend on the infrastructure and/or the military.
As I have noted many times, investment decisions at the highest levels are computer-based – algorithms.  The overriding strategy has been to buy on weakness.  When these computers were programmed it was unlikely anyone could anticipate the bizarre behavior of President Trump, a pathological liar with an itchy trigger finger for anyone who opposes him.
This spells uncertainty, at best, and disaster at worst.
How do you factor this into a computer program ?
Any change to the “buy on dips” strategy has to be to the sell side, and that means lower prices.
That can happen this summer extending into fall. Be aware of the possibility.
TODAY
The market will attempt to recoup some of yesterday’s losses. Let’s see if buyers show up in size.  If not, it’s a warning sign. If so, the rally must hold its gain – no rally failure. That would suggest sellers are waiting to use strength to unload. In short, we are looking for any change in the balance of buyers and sellers. The buyers have won every encounter – so far.

This bill should be crafted to serve the best interests of Americans who need affordable health insurance coverage.  Anything short of that is not in the best interests of our country, i.e., hostile.
Most of Congress is covered by ACA, which was implemented in place of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan, when ACA became the law of the land.  So, Congress has some skin in the game……well, kind of.

(Investor’s first read.com.
Another diversion to deflect attention away from yet another healthcare setback ?  Maybe it’s to divert attention from the Russia/Trump investigation, as is blaming President Obama for the Russian hacking. The only thing I am certain of is that this administration is the most untruthful administration in the 57 years I have been following politics.  What an utter disgrace, and we will be lucky to get out of this without an enormous amount of damage across the board.
       ……………………………………………………………………….
I am adding Jill Stein, Green Party presidential candidate, to my list of “Connect the Dots” (see below).

“Connect the Dots.” This investigation is open-ended
Nigel Farage – President Trump- Jeffrey Sessions – Robert Mercer – Cambridge Analytics – Bannon- Carter Page – Kushner (Jared and Ivanka) – Eric Prince – Donald and Eric Trump – Wilbur Ross – Jill Stein – Michael Cohen – Ezra Cohen Watnick – Flynn – JD Gordon  –  Christopher Steele – Michael Caputo -Breitbart – Roger Stone – Julian Assange – Paul Manafort – Rick Gates – Jill Stein – Russia’s Felix Sater – Sergey Gorkov –  Sergey Kislak, ambassador to the U.S..all connect directly or indirectly to the Trump/Russia investigation and some have a connection to Brexit, as well.
The budget is a disgrace to who we are as Americans, as it skewers a portion of our society with little ability to defend itself, much less survive.  .

TODAY
Failure to pass a healthcare bill has been a
stumbling block to pursuing  the GOP agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and a big spend on infrastructure and/or the military.
If passed, Congress may then proceed to push for tax reform legislation.
This is where this issue affects the stock market.  The surge in stock prices since Trump won the election in November is based solely on the expectation of a corporate windfall – tax cuts, deregulation, a big spend on the infrastructure and/or the military. The healthcare issue must be resolved before the Republicans can effectively move on to the rest of their agenda. A delay in spoon feeding the Street its promised goodies, could adversely impact the stock market.
The DJIA,S&P 500 and Nasdaq Comp. all launched an attack on all-time highs at the open yesterday but failed to follow through as sellers were awaiting at higher levels.  The high flying Nasdaq stocks Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), and Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), and Alphabet (GOOG) got slammed after rising at the open, Facebook after hitting a new high.
This could be significant. The hot money is using strength to dump holdings in the hot stocks.  Actually, the trading pattern in the DJIA and S&P 500 averages is similar, so sellers may be across the board.
This will be a real test for the bulls who have consistently been buyers on weakness. If they are a no-show, the market will be entering a correction, consistent with historic May to October summer doldrums.
The market is trying to tell us something. It has been rising but labored in doing so.

Better Care Reconciliation ACT (BCRA) aka, Trumpcare
The CBO report is out, and it complicates the decision process.

I can’t see why Republicans would want this bill.  Granted, it fulfills a promise to repeal Obamacare, but in its place is a bill that scars them as living in a bubble, not understanding what it is like to cope with medical issues and not be in a position to get help.
Some Senators need more time to make a decision, which means it may not happen before the July recess. It is possible they will cancel the recess in order to work on the healthcare bill. I think odds favor a bill before recess; it will simply be uglier. Conservatives will have to be pacified and that means a meaner bill.

Most of Congress is covered by ACA, which was implemented in place of the Federal Employees Health Benefit Plan, when ACA became the law of the land.  So, Congress has some skin in the game……well, kind of.

Street Hoping Healthcare Bill Passes

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Senate’s bill to repeal and replace ACA was released yesterday, though there will be little time for Democrats and Republicans to debate its clauses. It could go to a vote next week.

         Why the rush ?
Passage is not certain.  Four senators (Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ron Johnson) don’t think it is conservative enough. Others may not like the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scoring next week, others worry about the reaction from its voters, people on ACA, Medicaid, or  loved ones relying on it. No Democrats will vote for it.
It is flawed, unfair and based on questionable assumptions.
Worse yet, it IS POLITICAL, a rejection solely  the result of a Democrat’s attempt to provide a wide reaching solution for  a common need – affordable healthcare. Everything grinds to a halt when a person can’t walk, lift a fork, breathe, void, or function normally without pain. Republicans were against Medicare and Social Security when introduced. Given a chance, they will gut these, as well.
Look, 70 percent of our economy is consumer spending. A healthier populace goes a long way to ensuring a healthier economy, because it is not just those in need who detract from the economy, it is those who depend on them, and those who have to support them if healthcare is not affordable.
Recipients of Medicaid are not deadbeats, studies show some 57% work full or part time jobs, 17% too ill to work, 16% in school, and 10% out of the workforce (retired).
TODAY
Look for the stock market to meander.  There will be buyers betting on passage of the bill, and other investors selling, fearful of  a failure to pass.
Odds slightly favor passage, since the Senate left wiggle room for fine-tuning the bill to bring in enough votes for passage.

Nasdaq’s high fliers, Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MFST), Alphabet (GOOG) got slammed two Fridays ago, as hot money suddenly decided to lock in profits. This could signal the beginning of a correction (5% – 8%), except the same thing happened in May.  All five marked time yesterday. There is nothing wrong with a one-day stall, unless it signals buying interest has dried up.

TRIVIA: Donald Trump’s net worth is estimated at $2.9 billion. Vladimir Putin’s net worth is estimated at north of $40 billion, most of it in oil investments.
……………………………………………………………….
Trump continues to call the Russia hacking a hoax, blaming the Democrats for not intervening before the election. Typically liberal in the Marquess of Queensberry sense, Obama did not want to delegitimize the election process by blaming the Russians in the event Trump won.  Well Trump won ! Next time, don’t turn the other cheek – hellooooo  !
Damn it – gloves off time.      Trump’s inability to accept hacking is he can’t accept the  fact he didn’t deserve to win the popular vote or the electoral college vote either. His presidency is a mistake, and we are already paying for that mistake.
……………………………………………………………………………
Russian hackers targeted at least 21 US state election-related systems last year and planted online propaganda in an effort to discredit Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Reportedly, there is no evidence of any votes being manipulated.  I don’t believe that, Senator Angus King (I-Maine) has doubts, as well.
NPR Politics reports Alex Halderman, a computer scientist form the University of Michigan, told the Senate Intelligence Committee Wednesday that our computerized election infrastructure is vulnerable to sabotage  and cyber attacks that could change votes.

Official sources would never admit machines can be hacked to flip enough votes from one candidate to another, the best was to rig an election, since one flipped vote has the impact of two votes.
The election is what it is. If it was rigged in favor of Trump, there is nothing that can be done except prevent a repeat performance.
Where this gets ugly, or downright dangerous to our constitutional representative republic is, Donald Trump, a narcissist in every sense of the word, is president.
His dominate MO is divisiveness. He loves to pit one person against another. You are witnessing the dismantling of so many things we have held dear, and so many people gave their life to defend.
His election was a big mistake, and when you make a big mistake, you will pay a big price.
Everything this Congress will do will divide the country further – American against American, unless voters show up in November 2018 to stop the carnage.

According to  a 50-metric survey conducted by U.S.-based, nonprofit “Social Progress Imperative,” the United States leads the  world in access to higher education but lags 17 other countries in health, environmental protection, anti-discrimination.
What in the Hell are people thinking ?  Feeling ?

………………………………………………………………………..
Yielding to intense pressure from Democrats, some Republicans and the press, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell (R:KY) introduced a draft of the Senate’s healthcare bill which will move to the floor next week (week of 26th) after getting a cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
Some modifications will be made to appease fence-sitters. It is imperative for the Republicans to get this bill approved so they can move on to tax reform. That explains the secrecy, the refusal to follow standard procedure.
While passage would please a dwindling “base,” the bill stands to be unpopular with a high percentage of Americans, some who will get skewered by it, others who will have friends and loved ones hurt, and others who simply have a conscience.

BREAKING NEWS: TRUMP – OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE
Special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, has entered into a criminal investigation of President Trump for obstruction of Justice
with Director of National Intelligence, Daniel Coats, NSA head, Mike Rodgers, and his recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett agreeing to be interviewed last week.
Reportedly, In March, Trump asked Coats to intervene with FBI director James Comey to curtail its  Russia probe of  former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Shortly after, Trump  contacted Coats and Rogers separately, asking them to issue public statements denying collusion between Trump’s campaign and the Russian government. Neither would comply.
I think collusion regarding influencing the election is only part of something much bigger, like major league money transfers for options on oil investments, real estate holdings, and land deals. That’s why it is taking so much time.
The investigation is now examining Jared Kushner’s international financial dealings.
Vice President Pence has retained legal counsel.  Why not ?  He was there in the catbird’s seat during the campaign and afterwards.
There are so many people who know so much, and they are going to be watching out for number ONE, and that is not Donald Trump.
HOWEVER, Trump will stop at nothing to preserve his self image – Expect firings, scapegoating,  delaying tactics, and  unscrupulous lawyering.

PREUTERS WORLD NEWS APRIL 19, 4:20 PM
“A Russian government think tank controlled by Vladimir Putin developed a plan to swing the 2016 U.S. presidential election to Donald Trump and undermine voters’ faith in the American electoral system, three current and four former U.S. officials told Reuters.
Russian documents appear to confirm what U.S. intelligence agencies have believed  all along that Russia influenced the outcome of our presidential election.
It recommended that a, “propaganda campaign on social media and Russian backed global news outlets to encourage U.S. voters to elect a president who would take a softer line toward Russia than the administration of then-President Barach Obama.
Additionally, a second institute document recommended Russia end its pro-Trump propaganda and intensify messaging about voter fraud to undermine the U.S. electoral system’s legitimacy and damage Clinton’s reputation.
So far, investigations by U.S. institutions and Congress have not concluded collusion between Trump’s team and Russian operatives occurred.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
TRUMP TO PUT US  ON  A WAR FOOTING !

Expect the Trump administration to put the United States on a war footing within one year, probably regarding North Korea.  For one, it would justify its big military spend. For another, it would facilitate a mid-term election victory, since voters are reluctant to change  Congress significantly when the nation is gearing up for war.. It worked for George Bush in 2003.  Finally, it would deflect attention away from the Trump/Russia issue, that could sink the administration.
ALL OF THE ABOVE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO ADVERSELY IMPACT THE STOCK MARKET  AND   MERITS CONSIDERATION.

Facebook and Amazon  have recouped most of their loss. Apple’s rebound has  stalled, and Microsoft and Alphabet must hurdle resistance at 71 and 961 respectively to have a shot at new highs.
……………………………………………………………………………..
Meanwhile oil stocks are getting hammered. US crude and OECD inventories are high Iran’s production is increasing.
This group tends to run to extremes on the upside and downside, probably due to wide swings in the price of oil and the press it gets. They should be watched for one of those wipeouts like in January 2016.  Projections for doom can reach unthinkable levels for this group.
TODAY
The blue chip Dow and S&P 500 gave ground yesterday, but the Nasdaq Comp. held its ground. This has been the hot money’s sandbox, but that may be changing.  Renewed selling in the high fliers along with weakness in oil stocks could trigger a 5% – 8% correction in the market.
If Congress passes a healthcare bill, regardless of how ugly it is compared to ACA, tax reform and the big spend on the infrastructure are suddenly back  on the table.  That would surely pull buyers back into the market.
So far, delays in the Trump stimulus have not discouraged buyers – yet.
While everyone, except  President Trump, was aware of  Russia’s tampering with the 2016 election, it is still unnerving to hear it coming out of official sources.  This is just the beginning.

Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell (R:KY)  announced that a draft of the Senate healthcare reform bill would be available for everyone to see on Thursday.  McConnell plans to move a bill to the floor next week (week of 26th) after getting a cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
McConnell is caving to intense pressure by Democrats, some Republicans and the press after attempting to ram it through without the traditional review process. What would we do without  Americans  like this ?
It is uncertain whether time permits any changes that Democrats or Republicans wish to make.

Failure to pass a healthcare bill has been a stumbling block to pursuing  the GOP agenda of tax cuts, deregulation and a big spend on infrastructure and/or the military.
If passed, Congress may proceed to push for tax reform legislation with less pressure to cancel their August recess.

TODAY

Nasdaq’s high fliers, Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MAST), Alphabet (GOOG) got crocked two Fridays ago. Two attempts to rebound ran into resistance, raising the possibility that the hot money was exiting the market.
We have had so many bear market head fakes over the years, that the Street dismisses them as a blip in a never-ending bull market.
However, when hot money hits the silk, it is a good idea to step out of one’s bull market bubble for a moment, look up and down the street to for trouble.
The Fed is raising rates even in face of a soft economy, the Street thinks oil has entered a bear market, and this bull market is aging, buoyed by hopes for massive tax cuts, deregulation and a lot of spending on the infrastructure and military.
Regardless of what the Fed is doing, whether the economy has softened (again), or the behavior of the hot money, it is hopes for a massive stimulus that drives this market.  If that stimulus is delayed too much or becomes a ho-hummer, the Street will bail out, looking to return at a lower level, maybe a much lower level.
So far, the stimulus is a “GO,” but so often the stock market anticipates major changes, moving up or down to adjust for risk or opportunity.  That’s why it is so important  to watch it closely at this time.

I believe this scandal reaches far beyond collusion with Russia to get Trump elected.

Senator McConnell had started the secret  process known as Rule 14, enabling the Senate to bypass standard procedures, including committee hearings and markups, in a desperate attempt to ram a bill  on the replacement of ACA through before the July 4th recess.  Yielding to pressure, McConnell, will release a draft of the bill.

Congress may cancel its August  recess and stay in Washington to try to get something done for a change on all the goodies it has promised before and after the November election.  With only 44 legislative days left in its fiscal year, the Republican Congress is woefully behind on its legislative agenda.

Failure to pass a healthcare bill to repeal and replace ACA is the stumbling block, and Congress can only blame themselves. This ugly bill has delayed action on a budget resolution, which needs to be achieved before action on tax reform and annual appropriations bills, which are necessary to avoid the need to file a short-term continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown in September.
Failure to act may prompt Trump to press for a shutdown on September 30 to force swift, though indiscrete, action on His promises.
All three market averages gapped up at the open yesterday.
The Senate is so determined to pass a healthcare bill, it is developing it in secret with only a handful of Republicans in the loop, bypassing traditional, time-tested floor debate, committee hearings, and open meetings.
This smacks of desperation.  Reportedly the bill is “meaner” than the House bill. The Street is banking on its passage to justify the rise in stock prices.
Failure to pass a healthcare bill will delay progress on the rest of the GOP’s agenda and could trigger a long overdue correction.
Putin must love this stuff.   >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

ECONOMY

The U.S. economy continues to soften. Q1 GDP grew at an annualized rate of  1.2 percent, consumer spending was the villain.
The May Unemployment Rate at 4.3% was the lowest in 16 years. While a low unemployment sparks a rise in inflation, the May CPI fell 0.1 percent, though Core CPI (excl. food and fuel) rose 0.1 percent. It’s having its worst run since the Great Recession. Lack of inflation is an indication of soft demand.
The Fed bumped rates last week for the second time this year, either they see a better picture, or are simply playing catch up. Vehicle sales have slipped steadily this year, housing starts and permits are declining. Manufacturing jumped in April, but slid in May.
      Leading
Indicators will be reported at 10 o’clock Thursday, which may give us a better read on how serious the economic slippage has become.
TODAY

No fewer than eight Fed officials give speeches this week, hopefully, we will get a better read on Fed policy regarding the unwinding of its $4.5 trillion balance sheet.
Expect a firm open, even Nasdaq stocks will be off to a good start. The latter took a nasty hit six days ago, as hot money took profits in the high fliers – Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG).
As these stocks rebound, it will be important to see if they get hit again. Historically, stock markets tend to stall in the summer months, trading can get choppy until fall when the Street returns form family stuff, vacations and the Hamptons.
President Trump’s woes have not adversely impacted the market, apparently, the Street still believes the big stimulus will happen sooner rather than later, and if Trump goes, they have Mike Pence, or so they think.

If two-thirds of the senators find the president guilty, he is removed from office and the vice president takes over.***

The lovefest between Republicans and Democrats is running full tilt following the ballpark shooting and both parties talk of the great American way where individuals negotiate the best bills to send to President Trump’s desk.

Meanwhile,Senator McConnell has started the process known as Rule 14, enabling the Senate to bypass standard procedures, including committee hearings and markups, in a desperate attempt to ram a bill  on the replacement of ACA through before the July 4th recess. The strategy is to push it through quickly before any opposition can develop.
After eight years and more than 55 attempts to skewer ACA, The Republicans now own the nation’s healthcare bill

BREAKING NEWS: TRUMP – OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE
Special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, has entered into a criminal investigation of President Trump for obstruction of Justice
with Director of National Intelligence, Daniel Coats, NSA head, Mike Rodgers, and his recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett agreeing to be interviewed this week.

SENATE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE  – Sessions, Attorney General

I watched the testimony of U.S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, yesterday.  What an unimpressive person.  His Mickey Rooneyish  self righteousness was galling.
If he didn’t know anything about Russian tampering with our elections, he should have, he is the U.S. Attorney General. He was active in Trump’s campaign, was sworn in on February 9 and recused himself on March 2.  He knew nothing –  did nothing ?  He should have an intimate knowledge of this grave threat to our election process.
It was sad to watch his defense attorneys (Republican Senate Intelligence Committee members) serve him one layup after another, instead of drilling down in search of the truth. That’s what’s flawed about Congressional committees.

“Connect the Dots.” This investigation is open-ended
Nigel Farage – President Trump- Jeffrey Sessions – Robert Mercer – Cambridge Analytics – Bannon- Carter Page – Kushner (Jared and Ivanka) – Eric Prince – Donald and Eric Trump – Wilbur Ross – Jill Stein – Michael Cohen – Ezra Cohen Watnick – Flynn – JD Gordon  –  Christopher Steele – Michael Caputo -Breitbart – Roger Stone – Julian Assange – Paul Manafort – Rick Gates – Russia’s Felix Sater – Sergey Gorkov –  Sergey Kislak, ambassador to the U.S..all connect directly or indirectly to the Trump/Russia investigation and have a connection to Brexit, as well.

It recommended that a, “propaganda campaign on social media and Russian backed global news outlets to encourage U.S. voters to elect a president who would take a softer line toward Russia than the administration of then-President Barach Obama, the seven officials said.”
